My part in the project was to determine the
role philosophy played in Medieval Europe. I did this by
analyzing three works that focused on the existence of God. The
authors of these works were philosophers in the Middle Ages. I
also discussed various theories and ideals that philosophers were
tossing around today and back then. Through weekly meetings this
project was thrown together. It was tough to define at first but
once it was defined it was easy to find information. I think all
of us benefited by doing this project. I hope that when this
project is presented, that the class will benefit in different
ways as well, and can see the role that philosophy, culture, and
castles played in the Medieval Ages.
This quarter, my group and I have decided to
do an overall summary of a castle since a castle plays a very
important role in the Medieval age. Each of our group members
were given an assigned task in which they were to complete. I was
given the task to accumulate information on the topic of
"Life in the Medieval Age." Within our group, all work
was divided equally among all members. Each week, our group would
meet so that new ideas could be contributed to the web site.
Unfortunately, I was not the head of the design team for this web
site as I did last quarter. Jason had the privilige to handle the
main designs for the web site. However, I did contribute a lot of
information and web page source code as to how the web page
should look and feel. Overall, this project had been a really
interesting experience. I learned a lot from this project as well
as from my group members. I felt that our group did an
exceptionally well job in putting this web page together.
In doing this group project, I have learned
much about castles, but more importantly, about the medieval age
as a whole. As we have discussed, castles have served many
purposes, and have a rich historical and philosophical
background. Many of the pictures on our site have amazed
me; the structure of these great monuments is phenomenal. However
I'm sure pictures cannot completely grasp the wonder of these
castles; to stand at the foot must be an experience in
itself. It is also fascinating to me the diversity of the
castles from culture to culture. Although they do have
similar styles, from the Japanese to the English, all castles
have a uniqueness which stands alone. Each castle, though
all serving similar purposes, makes a statement for all to
enjoy. Castles have done more than just make a statement,
they have in a sense defined the medieval period. Through
the elements of nationalism, combined with the utilization of
trade and religion, castles have become a landmark for the
medieval period.
Over the past five or so weeks that we have
been working on this group project I have gained a great amount
of knowledge of the Medieval Ages. My research topic dealt with
castles from a military standpoint. My reasearch dissolved many
of the misconceptions I previously had of Castles just being a
home for the nobles. I also realized the great amount of time,
money, and work that went into building these wonderfull
structures. Through cooberation with my group members i also
learned a great deal about the other aspects of castles and life
in the Middle Ages. This project has become a great multi-faceted
learing experience for me. It was also my job to put this webpage
together. this meant collecting all the written works from the
other group members, talking with them about certain design
aspects, and writing the HTML for these pages. This project has
truelly been a learning experience for me.
